How Much Does Medication Cost?

Understand how medication pricing works at Thrive Rx — standard pharmacy retail pricing with no markup, billed separately from your membership fee.

Updated today

If your Thrive Rx clinician prescribes medication as part of your care plan, the cost of that medication is separate from your membership fee. Here's how pricing works.

Standard Pharmacy Retail Pricing

Thrive Rx does not mark up medication costs. All prescribed medications are dispensed at standard pharmacy retail pricing by Australian pharmacies that comply with Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) requirements.

The price you pay for a medication is the same price you would pay at a retail pharmacy for the same product.

Why Medication Costs Are Separate

Your membership fee covers your clinical care: telehealth consultations, pathology testing, biomarker tracking, and ongoing monitoring. Medication costs are separate because:

  • Not every member requires prescribed medication — some care plans focus on lifestyle and nutritional adjustments.

  • Medication types and dosages vary between patients, so a single bundled price wouldn't be fair or transparent.

  • Keeping costs separate means you only pay for what you actually need.

What Affects the Price?

The cost of your medication depends on several factors:

  • Type of medication — Different therapeutic categories have different costs.

  • Whether it is compounded — Compounded medications (prepared specifically for you by a compounding pharmacy) may cost more than standard off-the-shelf products due to the personalised preparation involved.

  • Dosage and supply duration — Costs are typically quoted per supply period (e.g. per month).

Will I Know the Cost Before I Start?

Yes. Your clinician will discuss any recommended medications during your consultation, and you will be informed of the cost before you commit to treatment. You are never obligated to proceed with a prescription — the decision is always yours.

Is Medication Covered by Medicare or Private Health Insurance?

Most medications prescribed through Thrive Rx are not currently listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and are therefore not subsidised by Medicare. Private health insurance typically does not cover outpatient prescription medications.

If you believe a specific medication may be covered by your health fund, we recommend checking directly with your insurer. Our support team can provide the information your insurer may need to assess a claim.

Delivery Costs

Medications are delivered directly to your door. Delivery fees, if applicable, will be communicated at the time of dispensing. For more details on how delivery works, see Medication Delivery: What to Expect.
